Deep Purple

When the deep purple falls
Over sleepy garden walls
And the stars begin to twinkle in the sky
In the mist of a memory you wander back to me
Breathing my name with a sigh

In the still of the night once again I hold you tight
Though you're gone
Your love lives on when moonlight beams
And as long as my heart will beat
Sweet lovers we'll always meet
Here in my deep purple dreams

And as long as my heart will beat
Sweet lovers we'll always meet
Here in my deep purple dreams
Lyrics by Peter De Rose

A song, a color, a theme…all in one. It began with a romantic song, written by Peter De Rose. I don’t know his ancestry, but his words betray the heart of a Scotsman. Just thinking of the purple heather on the hills in the twilight evokes a beauty unknown to most of us. Somehow he has captured it all in the melody and words of Deep Purple, by Peter De Rose.

These tartans seem to echo back the words…

Heather Isle tartan

For the bride, look at Burda 8321. The underskirt could be a tartan, with Deep Purple overskirt and bodice. The lacing or roses on the left hip could be of the same or a co-ordinating tartan. The bodice and overskirt could be of tartan, with deep purple for the underskirt.

For more modesty a tartan sash would be a nice traditional touch. Otherwise a wrap or capelet in a matching color and/or tartan could be worn for the ceremony.

Another stunning idea is Vogue 8075 with the cascading train all in deep purple tartan or a solid silk or satin. If done in Deep Purple, you could possibly add a very narrow trim around the top and along the edges of the cascades. A tartan sash or capelet would also add a touch of tartan to the ensemble.

The attendants could wear the opposite of the bride ~ tartan to her Deep Purple, Deep Purple to her tartan.

This vision in lace, done in Deep Purple over a purple tartan is another possibility. With a right headdress and jewelry, you’d have a stunning statement in lace.
